Model QT-600

Aerosoldetector NQAD 600

The hplc detector NQAD 600 offers some improvements compared to the standard model QT-500.

The special water condensation particle counting (WCPC) technology remains the same, i.e. the sample particles to be counted are enlarged using water vapour to provide the highest level of sensitivity.
This aerosol-forming universal detector is generally used for the detection of substances that carry no chromophores. The technology is suitable for use with gradients and is independent of the absorption characteristics of the solvent.

The new QT-600 aerosol detector has been optimised for UHPLC and SFC. The coolable nebulizer distinctly improves the detection of semi-volatile substances.
Full SOP protocols for GLP conformity and validation procedures are available.

Performance characteristics

Performance characteristics

  • optimized for semi-volatile compounds

  • particulary suitable for UHPLC and SFC

  • the most linear aerosoldetector

  • highest sensitivity – down to the low nanogram range
    (on column)

  • large dynamic range: 3-5 powers of ten

  • excellent reproducibility, usually ≤ 3% RSD

  • active pump system – for removal of excess solvent

  • simple handling

  • controllable by Chemstation and EZ-Chrom software

  • easy servicing – low maintenance expenditure

  • elegant, robust design – space saving

Function principle

Function principle

NQAD™ technology comprises 3 phases:
Aerosol formation, evaporation and nucleation via water vapour condensation

Aerosolformation:
The mobile phase with the analytes is continuously vaporised; this aerosol contains particles of various sizes. The distribution of these particles can be illustrated by a Gaussian curve.

Evaporation:

The mobile phase is evaporated, leaving dry particles. These particles comprise evaporation residue of the mobile phase and the sample particles themselves. The evaporation residue particles are smaller than the sample particles and are generally too small to produce condensation.

Water vapour condensation and particle count:

In the WCPC unit (water condensation particle counter) water vapour is condensed onto the larger sample particles, which serve as nucleation cores. The very much larger particles thus formed are counted electronically. The distribution of these is represented by a Gaussian curve, in other words as peaks. See also the CPC efficiency curve.
