The Luxon ion source ionises samples for mass spectrometer using laser diode thermo-desorption technology, a patented method that allows ultrafast, accurate and precise analysis of your samples.

The patented ion source, quantitatively the fastest technology in mass spectrometry, is the second generation of ionising sources based on LDTD® technology. Luxon uses fibre optics for improved, ultraprecise laser focussing.

In contrast to other methods for the ionisation of samples for MS, Luxon’s highly intensive molecule-ion signals can deliver samples in less than 1 second per sample. The improved technology offers greater performance and robustness when using very low-volume samples.

The Luxon ion source is the answer to a growing demand for innovative, high-throughput methods in the fields of pharmacy, forensic toxicology, environmental testing and food safety.

Function principle of Luxon Ion Source

In contrast to other methods for the ionisation of samples for MS, the Luxon ion source can deliver highly intensive molecule-ion signals in less than 1 second per sample. A fiberglass-coupled laser diode is used to achieve even greater precision, accuracy and speed.

1. Low volume (up to 10µl) of extracted liquid sample deposited onto
    LazWell™ surface.
2. Sample is quickly dried.
3. Indirect thermal desorption of sample using precisely controlled
    Fiber-Coupled Laser Diode.
4. The thermally desorbed neutral molecules are transported to a corona discharge
    zone using pressurized air.
5. Ionization occurs using Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Reaction (APCI)
    without solvent.
6. Ions are formed and introduced into mass spectrometers for detection.

Pharmazeutical /CRO
Pharmaceutical and Contract Research Organizations (CRO) are subjected to strict analysis regulations by their local overseeing entities. Our LDTD® technology enormously increases the analytical throughput and the turnaround time for multiple applications, while attaining unequaled precision.

In Toxicology and in Forensic testing, time is the biggest enemy. It is therefore crucial that the sample analysis time be the shortest possible without compromising on accuracy. Whether it is for Substance-Abuse or Pain Management Drug (PMD) testing, the LDTD® technology allows to analyze samples in less than 4 seconds per sample. Since its first introduction in the field in 2008, millions of samples have been analyzed on a daily basis thanks to our technology. Typically, drug testing is performed in urine and oral fluids, but other matrices such as hair or blood can also be quickly analyzed using the LDTD® ionization source.

Toxicology and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) rely upon rapid and accurate measurement of drugs and their metabolites in biological fluids. With the LDTD® technology, the identification and quantification of immunosuppressants, cholesterol, Vitamin D and testosterone, to name a few, become rapid and precise every single time.

Food / Environment
Characterization and quantification of pathogens both in food and in the environment are of paramount importance for the control or avoidance of public health issues. The LDTD® technology allows robust and ultra-fast contaminant detection without having to prepare extensively complex samples. This innovative procedure even allows to analyze complex matrices.

LazWell Microtiter Plates

The patented LazWell™ Microtiter Plates work exclusively with the LDTD®-technology to provide accurate and reproducible results at incredible speed. All plates are manufactured in a controlled environment, barcoded for sample traceability and compatible with most liquid handling systems.

The LazWell™ plate is the standard model, used in most analysis. The HDE plate (High Desorption Efficiency) is used to analyze molecules in organic matrices. The DEC plate (Desorption Enhancing Coating) is designed to enhance analysis of carboxylic acids, lipids and pesticides.

All models are available in 96 and 384 format:

  • LazWell-96 for use on Luxon-960 systems
    Volume 0,1-10 μl
  • LazWell-384 for use on Luxon-3840 systems
    Volume 0,05-2,5 μl
