Evaporative Light Scattering Detection is a universal modern technology with which every analyte that is less volatile than the mobile phase can be detected. The technology is gradient compatible and is independent of the absorption characteristics of the eluents. Compounds can be universally measured with this detector, regardless of their fluorescence, absorption or refractive-index characteristics.

Performance characteristics

Function principle

  • Splitting

With the aid of the nebulizer, the mobile phase is transformed into a fine droplet mist. The Sedex LT technology ensures that only the finest droplets enter the evaporation unit. Larger droplets increase the baseline noise considerably.

  • Low evaporation temperature

This discrimination of the larger droplets allows a very low evaporation temperature so that with reduced baseline noise it is possible to detect even semi-volatile substances.

  • GSF™  bundling via inert gas

The mist and the molecules dissolved in it are transported with the aid of GSF (gas supported focusing) to an optical unit for measurement of light-scattering. This bundling of the dissolved particles with the aid of the inert gas allows highly sensitive detection. It also prevents contamination of the optical unit by samples particles.
